The Refuge Decision - YieldGard Rootworm Corn (YGRW)

Refuge Planting Options (per field)

Within - Field Configurations

Split Planter - 6 rows minimum (20%)
Block (20%)
Block - Perimeter (20%)
Adjacent - Field Configurations

Adjacent - seperated by road, path, ditch, etc., but not by another field (20%)

Any corn hybrid that does not contain a B.t. technology for control of western, northern and Mexican corn rootworm and is planted within or adjacent to the YGRW field corn can serve as a refuge. (Refuge options include YieldGard Corn Borer, Roundup Ready Corn 2, and conventional corn)

• Plant a refuge (at least 20%) within fields or on adjacent fields where YGRW corn hybrids are planted.

• Plant the refuge at the same time as YGRW corn.

• The effectiveness of the refuge can be reduced because plant stands and plant vigor may be decreased. With less plants and decreased health you would get fewer susceptible insects in the refuge.

• Mixing non-B.t. seed with YGRW seed for use in the refuge is not permitted.

• Plant the refuge and the YGRW corn to fields with similar crop history.

Refuge Configuration Options include:

• Plant a corn refuge adjacent to each YGRW corn field.

• Plant a corn refuge as large strips or blocks within a YGRW field.

• Split the planter to alternate at least 6 and preferably 12 consecutive rows of corn refuge with YGRW corn.

• Plant field perimeters or end rows to a corn refuge.

Before opening a bag of seed, be sure to read and understand the stewardship requirements, including applicable refuge requirements for insect resistance management, for the biotechnology traits expresses in the seed as set forth in the Monsanto Technology Agreement that you sign. By opening and using a bag of seed, you are reaffirming your obligation to comply with those stewardship requirements.
